The Tortoise family

A white stripe pattern made up of concrete facade ribs

Here is a fun series of my whimsical Tortoise family, a takeoff from Saturday Night Live’s “Cone Heads”

I’ve created a progression from a somewhat traditional adult tortoise (the Grandparents) to a little more exaggerated (the children) to the very exaggerated (grandchildren) as their shells get taller and taller, their stories get longer and longer.

As I assemble each one I play with their personalities and postures, a grumpy Granddad to an energized grandchild, a proud Mom with her tangle of kids. Mix and match or have the whole family!

Note: the sculptures are not exact replicas; they are handmade, forged- formed, welded and assembled one piece at a time. When forging - forming the individual copper wool for instance pieces are irregular, a little longer, wider, curvier etc. When assembling I take the liberty of artistic license to creatively approximate the essence of the sculpture.

Something to Look Forward To:

I have introduced a new way to communicate with periodic emails providing new works and a glimpse of “in studio” behind the scene works in progress. And, most importantly, a more personal interaction with clients showing the inspirational thoughts and ideas of how the sculptures evolve. Client feedback has been tremendous.
